Today we began planting our vegetable garden! We also made posters about the healthy vegetables we had planted and their nutritional value.
Look what arrived in the UK! The Cape Town tourist pamphlets that our Grade 4s made! Our friends in the UK were very happy with their postal delivery! The Grade 4s made beautiful pamphlets to send to our Afritwin school in England. We will be posting them to our penpals across the sea! Water is a precious resource. Last week was "Water Week". Each class in the school designed a mind map about how water can be saved. On Thursday, we had an assembly about saving water. The children spoke about why it is so important to save water. We also watched a movie clip about saving water. To push healthy living in our school, we asked children to pledge that they would try to eat healthily this year. All those pledges stamped their hands on a poster at the Fun Run today. There were also free fruit sticks for all those that participated in the runs. Thank you to Miss Brain for running such an awesome stall! The children really enjoyed putting together the Zimbabwe display! The main feature is Victoria Falls, complete with sunset and birds. There were many other parts to the display, that represented different items that I saw on my trip to Zimbabwe. I have started on my Zimbabwean art display, after being inspired by the UK teachers workshop! Looking forward to posting pics of the final product! On Sunday 15 February I set out for Kadoma, Zimbabwe to represent our school in the Afritwin programme. On the first day of school, we observed lessons and spoke to the children about our respective schools. Joining me were two teachers from our UK twin school. On the second day, we visited a game park and saw many wild animals. The highlight for me was feeding a baby giraffe! The third and fourth days were spent on art projects. The UK teachers went all out with their 3D models of Big Ben and the queen. I did a puzzle of Table Mountain where each child decorated a piece of the picture. We felt so welcomed by the school, especially when teachers and parents put together a dinner. We tried many traditional foods and spoke a little bit about our schools. I taught a few lessons, including poetry to the grade sixes. We also discussed how we would work out the penpals for the older grades. All in all, the trip was an amazing experience where we all shared many ideas. I learnt a lot during the workshops and observations. Thanks to all for making this possible! |
