Today we made pots from salt dough... Not the greatest experience as my classroom looks like a bomb went off inside... The recipe I used was easy: 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, 3/4 cup water Your dough shouldn't be sticky, so go slowly with the water. The results were some beautiful pots! Lately, I have felt more like a clown/entertainer than a teacher. My class this year varies HUGELY in speed - some finish before you have blinked and others need a lot of time. This has caused huge unrest and disruption in my classroom.
So... I went on a mission to create an "Early Finishers" choice board. After spending a few hours on Pinterest (follow me here) I came up with the following board: First I found these gorgeous FREE editable labels from TeachersPayTeachers. You can find these labels here. Then I collated the following ideas for early finishers:
I have found THE most amazing websites recently, that offer free printables and resources. Enjoy browsing!
Teacher's Pet Sparkle Box Teachers Pay Teachers So, I got a bee in my bonnet on Sunday and decided to make some play dough for my more "active" boys who finish their work early. I wasn't sure how it was going to go down - taking into account that these boys love their sport and are 10 years old. It was a hit! Everyone wanted to get involved and I am going to have to make more!
The recipe I used is really easy. You don't even need a stove. Mix together 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup salt, 2 tablespoons cream of tartar and 1 tablespoon oil Boil the kettle and add one cup boiling water to the food colour of your choice. Combine with the dry mixture. It may look too moist - let it cool off. Pour half a cup of flour on the counter and knead the dough until you have the right consistency. Enjoy! |
